Broncos Play in Pierce Tourney

The LV Broncos traveled to Pierce on Saturday, May 31, and played three games against good competition. In their first game, the Broncos faced off against Elkhorn and came out on top by a score of 7-2. Players scoring runs were Felix Munoz, Vinny Cunningham, Ryker King, Waylon Reynolds, Easton Hilbers, Will Baltzer and Cooper Taylor. Ramsay Stanton had two hits, including a double, with Taylor, Baltzer, George Tonjes, Hilbers, Corbin Wagner and Cunningham getting singles. Baltzer and Tonjes did the pitching for the Broncos, combining for 7 strikeouts and allowing two hits.

The second game of the day saw the Broncos drop a close game to the West Point Bombers 6-4. Broncos held a 3-0 lead after three innings, but couldn’t hold on for the win. Hits were harder to come by, with Taylor and Hilbers slamming doubles, Baltzer and Everett Petersen hitting singles. The Broncos got superior pitching from three players, with Tonjes, Calum “Buzz” Cusick and Petersen allowing only two hits, one earned run and ten strikeouts.

In the tourney finale, the Broncos once again jumped out to an early lead, but saw a late rally from Hartington result in a 5-4 loss. Taylor and Tonjes were the only Broncos to get hits in the contest. A bright spot for the offense was 12 stolen bases. Baltzer started on the mound, allowing one hit and striking out three in three innings of work. Taylor took the loss, with one strikeout.
