Baseball Recap for the Week

It was a slow week for baseball teams this week, with rainouts affecting some games. The Digit teams were able to get their games in and here is a summary of the action. The Digit Gold team continued their winning ways with a 5-4 victory over the West Point Bombers on Tuesday, June 17th. The Digits jumped out to a 3-0 lead only to see the Bombers tie it up in the 3rd inning. LV then scored two runs in the 5th to give them the winning margin. Boyd Clausen and Bryce Fitzke combined to limit West Point to three hits while striking out 13. Clausen and Tristan Baltzer both had two hits to lead the offense, with Levi Fitzke and B. Fitzke getting singles. Raymond Beckstrom and Samuel Kriekemeier chipped in with a run scored. On Wednesday, the team traveled to Winnebago and came away with an 11-0 win over Winnebago White. The team only had five hits in the game, but benefitted from 11 walks by Winnebago pitchers. Baltzer had two hits, including a home run, Beckstrom and L. Fitzke stroked doubles and Hutson Meyer had a single. Meyer, Logan Rynes, Theo Worth and Owen Yang had a run scored in the game. Baltzer, B. Fitzke and Ashton Hoff combined to limit Winnebago to one hit and struck out 13 batters.

On Wednesday, the Digit Blue team dropped a 9-4 decision to Lyons. The team was paced at the plate by Luke Munderloh with two hits, Carter Von Seggern had a double and Weston Rasmussen with a single. Von Seggern and Rasmussen did the pitching.

The Digits traveled to Wakefield for a tourney over the hot, windy weekend. On Friday night, they lost a heartbreaker to Wayne. The Digits spotted Wayne a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning, but came back to grab a 5-4 lead in the 5th. Wayne was able to push across two runs in the 6th to get the win. Lots of hitting in the game with doubles by B. Fitzke, Baltzer, Von Seggern and Hoff leading the way. Other players with hits were L. Fitzke and Rasmussen. B. Fitzke and Clausen handled the pitching duties. On Saturday, the Digits were back on the field to face Bancroft and suffered a 10-2 defeat. LV could only muster two hits in the game, by L. Fitzke and Beckstrom. Rasmussen, Baltzer and B. Fitzke took turns on the mound.

In other games last week, the LV Blue Broncos took an early lead and cruised to a 20-5 win over Lyons on the Hooper field. Cooper Taylor and Ramsey Stanton scored three runs, Everett Petersen, Ryker King, Easton Hilbers, Waylon Reynolds, Shane Dowty and Vinny Cunningham scored two runs, Breccon Bowman and Henry Camenzind scored one. Taylor was the winning pitcher, with two solid innings. Stanton and Reynolds also pitched in the game.

The LV Ponies turned in another solid game and avenged an earlier defeat by beating the West Point Bombers on Thursday night, 9-3. The Ponies got on the scoreboard early and often, going up 7-0 after three innings and coasted from there. Colton Stockamp had three hits, Cooper Camenzind, Brock Schole, Graidon Drey and Jacob Peters had two hits and Oliver Stanton contributed a single. Schole and Stockamp kept the Bombers at bay, combining to allow four hits and striking out seven batters. On Sunday night, the Ponies traveled to Schuyler and grabbed a 10-2 victory. The Ponies continue to display their depth on the mound, this time Will Foust and Cooper Ruwe combined to pitch five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and striking out seven. Stockamp continued his hot streak at the plate, getting three hits and two RBI’s. Kohen Osborn, Schole, Peters, Drey, Stanton, Keagan Cordes and Foust had one hit apiece. The Ponies once again ran wild on the base paths, recording 21 stolen bases on the night.

This is the last week of regularly scheduled games for all the baseball teams. The Tri-Co league tourney will start on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
