Broncos Capture Third Place at West Point

The LV Broncos competed very well on Saturday, going 2-1 and earning third place in the West Point tourney. In the first game of the day, the Broncos defeated West Point Patriots 5-2. Semifinal action saw them lose their game to Pender 8-3. In their last game of the day, the Broncos had a close game with West Point and pulled out a 8-5 win. LV jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and were tied at 4-4 after three innings. In the 4th, Cooper Taylor, Will Baltzer and Brantley Oberg loaded the bases before George Tonjes brought them home with a grand slam home run. Taylor and Oberg were on the mound for the Broncos.

LV Digits also participated in the West Point tourney and ended the day with one win and two losses. In their first game, the Digits defeated the West Point Bombers 8-3. The second game saw them lose to a good Howells-Dodge squad 9-6. The Digits fell behind 9-0 before mounting a comeback in the 5th inning, scoring six runs. Their final game saw them lose a close game to Pierce 8-5 in six innings. The Digits held an early lead and were tied going into the 5th. Tristan Baltzer was thrown out at home plate for the first out and the Digits left the bases loaded when the inning ended.

LV Ponies were also involved in tourney action over the weekend, playing at Fort Calhoun. In their first game on Saturday, they dropped a 16-6 decision to Fort Calhoun. The Ponies only managed four hits, with Graidon Drey stroking a double and Will Foust, Cooper Ruwe and Jacob Peters hitting singles. Oliver Stanton scored two runs. The second game was an opposite of the first, as the Ponies jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st inning and defeated North Bend 15-5. Ruwe continued his hot hitting, smashing two doubles with two RBI’s. Colton Stockamp and Peters also had two hits in the game. Stanton and Foust added singles to the Pony attack. Reece Pekarek ended the game with three RBI’s. Ruwe and Foust were effective on the mound, combining to allow five runs on five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
